Long has Akron held the reputation for resilience, owner of a certain scrappy, can-do kind of attitude its residents refer to with pride as a place that devours the weak. The Rubbertop Review, the literary journal of the University of Akron, embodies this same spirit of the city it calls home. Our journal is looking for work that speaks to the hard times, the rough scratches left behind, picking each piece of gravel off your body, grain by grain. We want your stories of grit and grind, how the wound healed after the scrape and the mark it left behind. We accept short fiction and nonfiction, poetry, and greyscale visual art representative of these themes.
